A Must Have Item For Your Home Gym!
Homemade Deadlifting Platform
Homemade deadlifting platform article and pics by Manzooka.
I just finished making a platform for home-gym deadlifting on the cheap and thought I’d share my project details.
Materials Purchased: total of ~$115
- 3x Sheets of 1/2 inch 4’x8’ plywood from Home Depot - $15 each
- 1x Sheet 3/4" 4’x8’ plywood cut into two 4’x4’ pieces from Home Depot (only used one 4’x4’ piece) - $35
- 1x 3/4 inch 6’x4’ stall mat from Tractor Supply Company – $35

Materials I had on hand:
- Tools (power drill, power sander)
- Wood stain, finish, glue, sponge brushes
- Lots of 1 1/4 inch screws
Directions:
- Stacked the 3 sheets of half inch plywood together using wood glue and let them set overnight before screwing the 3 sheets together.
- Lightly sanded the edges of the assembled main platform along with the 3/4" 4’x4’ upper piece.
- Stained and finished the 3/4" 4’x4’ upper piece and attached it to the center of my platform with wood glue and screws (also stained the front of the platform for aesthetics).
- Cut the stall mat into two 2’x4’ sections with a utility knife (this part sucked, would have preferred a longer knife, a saw, or something).
- Applied Multi-Purpose Liquid Nails to the bottom of the 2’x4’ stall mats and secured them in place on the platform with several more screws.
Voila, platform complete! I wasn’t looking for anything fancy, just a rock solid platform that would hold up over time and save my concrete floors. This platform fits the bill. Now I just need something to clean up those rubber edges a bit.
