Wimp! You don't need gloves, build some calluses and increase your grip strength! Macho enough for ya? This is the way some lifters feel about this accessory. Now you may think having calluses on your hands is macho, but if your wife or girlfriend won't let you touch her because of your rough hands, maybe now you'll wear gloves?
Gloves help your grip especially when sweating. They will also keep calluses off of your hands. But regular weightlifting gloves fail to pad your fingers and the padding in their palms is not enough. They almost always scrunch up, chaff or irritate your hands. They make hands hot, sweaty and can be a tug of war to put on and take off. They can stink and leather dyes can stain your skin.
This weightlifting glove called "NewGrips" solves ALL those problems:
These gloves pad and cushion your entire palm and fingers; which no leather glove does. The neoprene Grips change your hand geometry into a level, padded, surface that effectively distributes pressure.
Your instinct has been to put a death grip on the bar trying to prevent it from slipping and turning in your hands. This is what causes calluses, grip fatigue, strained wrists, sore palms and fingers!
The neoprene cushion effectively protects my palms, and the heavy duty wrist strap stabilizes my wrists and the carpal tunnel area so I no longer feel significant compressive forces in my wrists when bench pressing.
Padded palms and fingers strengthen grip, absorb pain and prevent calluses. NewGrips have no finger holes to jam your hands into and are easy to put on and take off. Your hands stay cool and comfy.
As soon as you release your grip from the weight bar you can slip your hands out of NewGrips and allow fresh air flow to your hands, leaving them cool and fresh rather than hot and sweaty.
We all face fitting issues when buying gloves. Too long, too short, too wide, too tight, too loose, etc.
NewGrips fit your hand properly. No more poor fitting gloves. When you order, you are asked for height and wrist size so a properly fitted glove is shipped.
This company has been around since 1995. They have a very informative website and a long list of testimonials. Their customer service is top notch! It's refreshing to find a company that delivers what's advertised.
There are quite a few newgrips weightlifting gloves reviews, but check out this one by a personal trainer:
Shawn Ooi is a Los Angeles-based freelance personal trainer specializing in fitness, boxing, kickboxing and martial arts instruction. With over 16 years of professional experience, he has trained some of L.A.'s influential professionals as well as Hollywood's elite. Here's what he has to say about NewGrips:
Working out is hard enough without having to put up with ugly calluses, sore hands and poor grip just because of abrasive bars, poorly padded equipment handles or a physical limitation. All sorts of gloves have been designed in an attempt to eliminate the abuse hands take when lifting weights. If you have a fresh blister, calluses, or are frustrated with your inability to complete those last few reps, you are not alone.
Originally, I was skeptical of these new type of "gloves". Nevertheless, I was open to trying them out. In the past, I had not used gloves because I did not like my hands feeling restricted when it came to the feel of the weights in my hands. The NewGrips took some adapting but they soon warmed on me.
My first impression of the Grips was that they cushioned the barbells and dumbbells in my hands, thus allowing me to handle heavier weights more comfortably. Within days, I noticed that it was second nature flipping the Grips on and off between sets and exercises. Heavy weights tend to put enormous amounts of pressure on the palms of our hands but with the Grips, you do not feel that pressure, therefore allowing us to focus more on the exercise.
"Nothing ruins a work-out sooner than sore hands or grip fatigue", says Alan Trombetta, the product developer of NewGrip.com. He continues, "Here is the difference: conventional workout gloves have failed to meet the needs of today's fitness generation. Leather gloves confine your hands and force them to sweat. Gloves bunch up, pinch and for many, getting a good fit is difficult. NewGrips, on the other hand, do not have finger holes to struggle with. They are hand pads, not gloves.
Since Grips are a two part system both the hand pads and the wrist straps are fully adjustable for a custom fit. Grips are the only adjustable glove." After a few weeks of using the Grips, I decided to go through a few work-outs without using them to see if it had made that much of an impact in my work-outs. Needless to say, I felt something amiss, in fact, I almost felt naked without my Grips! Give your hands a treat and slip on a pair of Grips today and see how they revolutionize the way you feel about working out.
When your Grips wear out (unlikely) or perhaps get lost, you can purchase replacement hand pads and replacement wrists support straps, replacement parts, a first in the weightlifting glove world!
Now that I've sold you on their functionality, here's another reason to buy NewGrips (taken directly from their website):
Made in the USA, we, along with a growing number of small businesses, have decided NOT to outsource our manufacturing, bite the bullet on higher profit margins and keep Americans employed. Our super 100% woven cotton is made in a mill on the East Coast. Our neoprene is made in the South, our sewing is done in Washington State and our hand pads are made in Portland, Oregon. NewGrip.com is also a family run, home based business.
Finally something NOT MADE IN CHINA!
Buy a pair or two, you'll be happy you did!
UPDATE: I have used these gloves at least five times a week for over two years now, and they still work like the day I got them. The neoprene pad did not rip or tear (see pic below), and the pad is curled to fit the shape of my hand; the wrist strap still tightens like a vise grip; and NO SWEATY SMELL like regular weightlifting gloves.
These gloves work so well, I decided to buy them wholesale and sell them direct from this page. If you buy them from me, not only will you save a little on shipping, but I'll include these freebies:
How to measure for your newgrips:
NewGrips fit your hand properly. No more poor fitting gloves. The size of Newgrip glove you choose is based on your height and wrist size so a properly fitted glove is shipped.
Height is an accurate correlation to the size of your hand. Less than .5 % of all customers using this method need to exchange sizes. NOTE: Women over 5'9" (175 cm) with slender hands should order the Medium.
Measure your largest wrist about 1 inch up from the wrist bone toward your forearm. Lay the tape lightly on your wrist.
If you do not know your wrist size and do not have a tape measure use this method.
Cut a piece of string, wrap it around your wrist LIGHTLY, about 1 inch (ca. 25mm) above your wrist bone.
Mark the string.
Lay it flat on a ruler. This will be close enough to select the proper size.
